Discord? Why Discord?
Over the years, we've tried quite a few different methods of real-time comminucation. We tried Whats App, Signal, Teams, Smoke Signals, Telegrams, Telegraph, and even floated the idea of carrier piegeons. Unfortunately, none of those ideas really seemed to check all (or really more than one or two) boxes. In May 2023, we introduced discord.For those un-aware, discord is a platform agnostic, interest group focused, communication app where everyone on a given server has a similar shared interest such as MMS. This allows us to communicate with attendees and speakers in real time and not worry about whether they have a PC, Mac, Android, iOS, or ARM device. Discord can be run locally, or entirely in any modern browser. It supports things such as bots which allow us to do things like allow people to get roles, vote on polls, participate in giveaways, and even add reactions and stickers to stuff. We have our server broken down into various areas of interest such as SCCM, Azure, Automation, and Intune. Don't care about something like SCCM? No problem, you can easily mute any topics or categories that you don't want to be notified about. We also have areas where people can talk about their hobbies outside of MMS, post questions for their speakers about the session they attended, or even get a group of people together to grab a bite to eat or drink.
